Treasure Maps & Measurement

The theme this week is Pirate Treasure Maps.  The standard is reading maps: being able to identify land and water.  A great way to look at this standard is to read treasure maps.  We will be looking at real maps as well: land, water, compass rose, and legend.  

In math we are working with measurement.  The first couple of lessons are on measuring with items such as paperclips, pencils, etc. Then we will move to inches and then centimeters. If you have a ruler at home, have your child practice measure items around the house.  We will be measure distance on treasure maps.
