Treasure Maps

Today we made treasure maps like real pirates.  The kids tore brown paper to make the map look worn and old.  Then we added symbols onto the map.  Each item symbolized a piece of playground equipment.  After glueing on the symbols, the students drew dashes to show in which order to move through the map.  Finally they placed a red 'x' by the symbol where their gold will be hidden.

On Thursday morning, the kids will hide their gold coin on the playground according to their map.  Then we are going to meet up with a group of 6th graders who will use the students' maps to find the treasure.  Both classes are very excited to go on a treasure hunt.  It is going to be a nice day to find some pieces of eight. Ahoy!
